SSC CHSL (10+2) Exam Syllabus and Pattern 2015:-

Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination is conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year for the recruitment of eligible candidates for the Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant, Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO) posts. The exam will be conducted on 1st, 15th, and 22nd of November, 2015.

This exam is conducted in two parts:-

  1. Written Test
  2. Descriptive Test

SSC CHSL (10+2) Exam Pattern 2015:-

  1. Written Test
  • This test consists of 4 sections each with 50 multiple choice questions making it a total of 200 questions.
  • These sections are
  1. General Intelligence
  2. English Language
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. General Awareness
  • Each correct answer gives you 1 mark
  • Total Duration – 2 hours(120 minutes)
  • For Visually Handicapped candidates the total duration of the exam is 2 hours and 40 minutes (160 minutes)
  • There will be a negative marking of -0.25 for each wrong answer
  • The question will be set in both Hindi and English for Sections-1, 3 and 4

  1. Descriptive Test

The candidates who qualify the written test are eligible for Descriptive test. Two types of tests are conducted based on the post for which the candidate has applied for. These are:-

  • Typing Test for PA/SA and Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
  1. This test will be held for the candidates who qualified the writing test and applied for LDC post.
  2. This test is conducted in both Hindi and English. The candidate is asked to specify the language of typing in the application form.
  3. Candidates opting for English should maintain typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi should maintain typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  4. Typing test will be of qualifying nature and it will be administered on the computer provided by the Commission or any other authorized agency.
  5. The speed of the candidate will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing a given text passage in 10 minutes on the computer.
  6. Visually Handicapped candidates will be given 30 minutes for this test.
  • Skill Test for Data Entry Operators (DEO)
  1. This test will be held for the candidates who qualified the writing test and applied for DEO post.
  2. The candidate must maintain a data entry speed of 8000 key depressions/strokes per hour on a computer.
  3. The test duration will be 15 minutes and a printed matter will be provided to each candidate which will be in English and will contain about 2000-2200 words.
  4. Only correct entries will be counted as a word.

Each correct answer gives you 1 mark and there is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. The syllabus for each section is listed below:-

  1. General Intelligence

It includes questions of both verbal and non-verbal types. The test will include questions on Semantic Analogy, Symbolic operations, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Trends, Figural Analogy, Space Orientation ,Semantic Classification, Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/Number Classification, Drawing inferences ,Figural Classification ,Punched hole/pattern-folding & unfolding , Semantic Series, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Number Series, Embedded figures, Figural Series, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Emotional Intelligence, Word Building, Social Intelligence, Coding and de-coding, Other sub-topics, if any Numerical operations.

  1. English Language

Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting Mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.

  1. Quantitative Aptitude
  2. Arithmetic :

Number System: Number Systems: Computation of Whole Number, Decimal and Fractions, Relationship between numbers.

Fundamental arithmetical operations: Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple and Compound), Profit and Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture and Alligation, Time and distance, Time and work.

  1. ALGEBRA: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.
  2. GEOMETRY: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centers, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.
  3. MENSURATION: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base
  4. TRIGONOMETRY: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities like sin2 0 + Cos2 0=1 etc.,
  5. STATISTICAL CHARTS: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart
  6. General Awareness

Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

Following are the important dates which describe the schedule of SSC CHSL (10+2) Exam 2015 Schedule:-

  • Beginning of Application Form Process – 13th June, 2015
  • Closing Date of Application Form Process – 6th July, 2015
  • Issue of Admit Cards – Mid of October, 2015
  • Date of Exam – 1st, 8th and 15th of November, 2015
