Overview
University of Sunderland is a public university which was set up in year 1901. Two of its campuses are in Sunderland and third campus in London, United Kingdom. It works on motto ?Sweetly absorbing knowledge?. In year 1969 it was established as Sunderland Polytechnic and was listed under first 30 polytechnic universities in Sunderland. Later on in year 1992 it gained its status as a university under the passage of Further & Higher Education Act 1992.
This university was shortlisted under Times Higher Education 2012 for the category University of the Year. According to the latest Research Excellence Framework it has over 10 best areas of ?world leading? research programmes. The Guardian University Guide in the year 2012 stated it as the best new university in North East and was ranked at #52 out of top 100 universities in Sunderland.
Sunderland is affiliated to Coalition of Modern Universities, Universities UK, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), European University Association (EUA) and Million+. It was accredited by Privy Council in the year 1992. It has over four faculties: Faculty of Arts, Design, Media; Faculty of Applied Science; Faculty of Business & Law and Faculty of Education & Society.
Campus
Two of university?s campuses are located in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear whereas the third campus is in Canary Wharf, London. Campuses are centrally located with easy access from Metro, bus, Northern train, ferry and airport. London?s campus homes financial management, hospitality, nursing, accounting, business and tourism and Sunderland campus homes all the academic facilities provided by university along with Peter?s Library, David Puttnam Media Centre, David Goldman Informatics and National Glass Centre.
