One of the main reasons for students to prefer doing their Master’s in the UK is that most of the UK universities offer highly intensive Master’s programs that can be completed in one year. Each year, ranking systems like QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education Rankings (THE), ARWU Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities, US News Rankings, etc. come up with lists of top ranking universities in the world. Each ranking system has certain specific criteria on the basis of which universities are ranked. For purposes of comparison, we will consider QS Rankings, THE Rankings and US News Rankings for 2018. - University of Cambridge: The University of Cambridge is one of the oldest and largest institutions in UK and it attracts students from all over the world. This university ranks 5 in QS, 4 in THE as well as ARWU rankings. The rank drops down to 7 in the US News rankings.
- University of Oxford: The University of Oxford is another leading university in UK and has been around for a long time. This university is ranked 1 in THE rankings, 6 in QS and US News rankings and 7 in ARWU rankings.
- University College, London: This public institution is one of the top multidisciplinary universities in the world and has a reputation for excellence in research. This year, the university falls within the top 23 universities in the QS rankings, ranks 27 in THE rankings, 36 (tie position) in US News rankings and 41 in ARWU rankings.
- King’s College, London: One of the oldest universities in London, the King’s College has a reputation for excellence in cutting edge research. The University is ranked 23 in QS rankings, but the rank drops down to 36 (tie position) in THE rankings, 45 (tie) in US News rankings and 50 in ARWU rankings.

This university ranks 25 (tie) in THE rankings and 35 (tie) in QS rankings. The rankings significantly go down in ARWU rankings (151-200 category) and 261 (tie position) in US News rankings.

- The University of Warwick: This campus university has a diverse student community and is renowned for excellence in research. The university ranks 57 in QS rankings. However, it only manages to stay within the top 100 and 200 universities as per the other ranking systems.

Although there are some basic criteria for admission in UK universities, each university has different specifications. Hence, be sure to read about the academic requirements of each institution carefully before applying to that institution. Some of the eligibility criteria to get admission in UK universities are:
- Proficiency in English: Most universities in UK require candidates to submit their IELTS or TOEFL scores as a measure of their proficiency in the English language. A candidate interested in applying for a management program would be required to submit GMAT scores. A minimum score of 700 on the GMAT would be required for admission in any post graduate management course. UK universities do not accept GRE scores.
- Minimum years of education: Most postgraduate programs in UK would require candidates to have a graduate degree in any stream with a minimum duration of 3 years. Some postgraduate courses might require candidates to have a graduate degree with a duration of 4 years.
In addition, you would be required to show excellent academic records and submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP). You would also have to submit your visa applications through the IM2A forms which are freely available at the British Embassy. In case of scholarships, you would have to submit relevant documents.
