The most important criteria for MBA eligibility in US colleges are the GMAT and TOEFL exams. GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) is an essential MBA admission eligibility criteria in US universities. TOEFL (Test of Englis as a foreign Language) is required to be taken by those whose first language is not English, in order to prove their language proficiency. Students are required to score 650 and above in their GMAT exam to be considered for MBA admissions in US universities. The GPA score of the students is also important along with these exams, although the minimum acceptable GPA may vary from university to university.

Four-year graduation

The next most vital criteria for MBA eligibility in US colleges is four years of education after school. It is common knowledge that all US universities offer four-year undergraduate degrees. In order to be eligible for MBA in any US B-school, one must have a four-year graduation degree. If this is not the case, as in India, Australia or New Zealand, then a four-year professional degree would be acceptable. For students who have already finished their three-year graduation degrees, the most advisable plan is to complete a post graduate degree like MSc or M.Com before applying to MBA in US. The other thing that can be done is to go for a one-year course/diploma program. This will cover for the fourth year and allow the candidate to be within the MBA admission eligibility criteria for US universities. But such courses must be completed from a recognized university in order to avoid the chances for rejection.

Work Experience

Depending on your GMAT, TOEFL and GPA scores, and your essays and reference letters, you may get selected without work experience. However, preference is always given to those who possess a work experience of at least two to three years. The fact that these candidates have practical knowledge of the market industry gives them an edge and pushes them ahead in the MBA admission eligibility criteria.
